Jordan is very proud of its history. As shown on our home page, the Erie Canal
traversed right through the center of town. After being closed and drained, the
village created an Erie Canal Park. Due to the age of the walls, some of them
started to fall. Thanks to Mayor Platten and the
State of New York, we were able to restore our heritage. The wall blocks had to
be numbered and stored while the bank was shorn up - then put back in the exact
spot that they were originally placed. A lot of time and effort went into the
preservation of history. Construction is now completed and the canal is in it's final stages. Our historic canal is preserved. Thanks
to everyone involved in this extensive project.
